Bringing Middle Schoolers to Abbott

As part of Abbott’s eight-year-old Operation Discovery program, more htan 3,500 middle school students and their teachers have visited Abbott facilities to engage in authentic science experiments and understand firsthand our laboratories and research including facilities in Singapore.

Bringing Middle Schoolers to Abbott

Because of the compelling need for more scientists, engineers and inventors, Abbott regularly invites students and their teachers into our laboratories, like this one in Abbott Park, to share our passion for science and discovery.

Bringing Middle Schoolers to Abbott

In China, students meet some of Abbott’s top scientists and hear firsthand about the challenges we confront in developing new medicines and medical devices.

Bringing Middle Schoolers to Abbott

The students conduct experiments with Abbott scientists that give a better understanding of the science in our laboratories.

Bringing Middle Schoolers to Abbott

In Ireland, students participate in lab experiments, guided by members of our own research and development staff.

Bringing Middle Schoolers to Abbott

Operation Discovery provides students and their teachers with hands-on experiences in biology, chemistry and engineering, with Abbott scientists leading small groups of students in the kinds of laboratory experiments that fuel Abbott’s own discovery process.

Bringing Middle Schoolers to Abbott

Molecular biology is an especially exciting area of focus for Abbott and for students visiting our labs. This field holds significant promise for new discoveries.

Bringing Middle Schoolers to Abbott

We’ve held Operation Discovery sessions at Abbott lab sites in China, Illinois, Massachusetts, and Singapore, inspiring and engaging middle schoolers in the process of hands-on scientific discovery.

One of our signature programs, Operation Discovery, focuses on students and teachers in the middle-school years, leveraging Abbott’s expertise in innovative research and development. The program brings students to an Abbott facility, where our scientists serve as mentors and role models, guiding the students through hands-on lab experiments using the same tools and procedures that Abbott scientists use in their daily work. Evaluations of the program in China, Ireland and Singapore revealed that students participating in Operation Discovery showed significantly increased interest in studying science and pursuing scientific careers.
